Phuket athletes competing in 42nd Sapanburi GamesPhuket Governor Maitri Inthusut recently presided over a ceremony which saw him hand out sports kits and funds to Phuket sportspersons, coaches and team managers who are taking part in 42th Supanburi Games, in Supanburi Province from January 5-15, 2014. The ceremony took place at the Phuket Provincial Hall and the governor was joined by PPAO Chief Executive – Paiboon Upattising, PPAO Chief Advisor – Boonserm Suwannarathphoom, Phuket Sports Association and PPAO Council Member – Saroj Angkanapilas, Director of Thailand Sports Center Phuket – Wirat Pathi, sportspersons, officials, and guests.

In his speech to the team, Mr. Paiboon said “We are sending a team of 147 people, made up of sportspersons, coaches and team staff, to compete in 20 categories of sports at the 42th Supanburi Games, taking place in Supanburi Province on January 5-15, 2014. To give some moral support to the team, we have organized this ceremony to wish them well and to hand out financial assistance. The funds for this purpose, allocated by PPAO, amounts to 1,305,070 baht, of which 653,970 baht goes to transport costs for the team, and 651,110 baht for kits, training, and equipment.”

Past achievements of Phuket sports includes one gold medal at the SEA Games (hammer throw), two silvers (mixed doubles badminton), and bronze (women’s single badminton). Our sports success reflects our collaboration between the Phuket Provincial Office, Phuket Sports Association, Thailand Sports Center Phuket, PPAO, and all Phuket sports clubs.”

Mr. Maitri said: “I wish all of you all the best. Go and show other provinces your strength and prowess. Look after your health and be committed to the tasks ahead. Always have the team spirit of knowing when to yield, win or forgive. Bring back as many medals as you can to make Phuket proud.”
