The sixth Phuket Local Food Festival, organized by PPAO, and taking place in Sapan Hin from January 24th – 28th 2014, was opened by Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut. Also present at the opening ceremony were PPAO Chief Executive – Paiboon Upattising, PPAO executives, council members, officials and staff, along with Thai and foreign guests, the media and the general public.
Mr. Maitri said: “I am delighted to be part of this festival. We all know Phuket is a world-class destination and the province brings substantial revenue to the country. Phuket is unique in many respects – attractive sites, local customs and traditions and authentic food. You must visit Phuket to experience the local flavors. This festival is held to promote that aspect of Phuket and will offer more choices to tourists. It is a project worth organizing and continuing. I therefore wholeheartedly support it and believe it will become very popular with our visitors.”
Mr. Paiboon reiterated the Governor’s comment with respect to Phuket’s uniqueness. He added that this festival has been organized by PPAO in collaboration with the Health Network in Thailand office with the aim of promoting tourism and offering an alternative to the tourist market.
“The festival features many activities such a cooking Tubo (local dessert) in the biggest pot in the world, roast coconut salad contest, beauty pageant, performances by musicians (Mangpo Chonticha, Waen Thitima Susutorn, Chompu Fruiti and Ood Kiriboon) and by students from PPAO schools, and other cultural shows. Moreover, there are cooking, dessert making, and fruit and ice carving demonstrations, along with stalls selling food and local “Clean Food Good Taste” products. This festival will offer another dimension to Phuket tourism and also help raise the standard of local food and place it on an international arena. We have received support from many sectors, both government and private” concluded Mr. Paiboon.
