Over one hundred students from the PPAO Ban Talard Neua School recently took part in a basic emergency management workshop at the school premises in Phuket Town. PPAO Chief Advisor – Boonserm Suwannarathphoom, accompanied by Director of Planning and Budget Division – Satien Kaewpraprab, opened the event which was also attended by the school’s administrators and teachers.
A similar workshop was delivered to 120 students from PPAO Muang Phuket School earlier this month, and both workshops were led by instructors from Patong Municipality. The aim of the program is to equip young people with basic disaster management skills including prevention, liaison operations, warning system and rescue procedures. It is hoped, once trained, that students will be confident enough to handle basic emergency situations effectively and without fear. Furthermore, the workshop will instill a sense of “safety first” among young people. Training modules, which simulate real-life experience, included general knowledge on fire, prevention and uses of equipment for different types of fires, steps to take in the case of a blaze, among others.
In his speech, Mr Boonserm highlighted the multitudes of emergencies that include floods, storms, fires, earthquakes and landslides. Disasters, he said, are unavoidable, but preparedness training will help reduce loss of lives and property. He urged young participants to apply themselves during the training and ended by thanking all concerned.
