Tiny model artists are holding event relaying the history of Phuket Island including the Vegetarian Festival and other cultural traditions. The event is showcasing models, with some pieces which were as small as a grain of rice.
On June 18th, Prayoon Noosuk, Office of Culture Phuket, opened the celebration for the “5th Amazing Thai Miniature World” The event is being held at the Jungceylon shopping complex in Patong, Phuket, from 17th-26th June 2011 and highlights the story of the Thai way of life, both past and present as represented by tiny carvings and other intricate artwork produced by expert craftsmen. The aim of the event is to support Thai artists working in the genre and to raise the international profile of the art.
Highlights of the event include representations of the Indian deity Ganesha and the Chinese Bodhisattva Guanyin carved into tiny pieces of ivory.
Also on display will be the smallest set of carved, antique-style pottery in the world.
