February 17th, 2010 : Chaiwat Tehpee, the Phuket Provincial Administrative Assistant, discussed the old debt problem in Phuket with related government officers and representatives from banks in Phuket.
After the meeting, Chaiwat revealed that related government offices and banks have set up a center to solve the debt problem and some of the officers were assigned to help registered people to compound or relieve their debt. Now there are 4,120 registered cases with debt amounting to 432 million baht. From February 16th – March 16th, 2010, the provincial committee investigating these cases is inviting all the registered villagers to be informed about the process of debt relief and creditors are invited to talk about debt relief as well.
