On Monday November 17th 2014, a Buddhist ceremony was held by the Phuket Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the its 31st anniversary. The event was presided over by Governor Nisit Chansomwong, whilst Chairman of PCC Kriangsak Suksomboon gave an opening speech.
The idea of establishing the Phuket Chamber of Commerce was first thought of in 1979 by the then Governor Saneh Wattanatorn who consulted with Phuket Trade Office. The aims were to introduce to traders and business operators the roles and works of a chamber of commerce within the local industry. Only six years later, in 1983, after a request by the Phuket Trader Association to the Phuket City Authority, did the foundation of the first Phuket Chamber of Commerce take place, on November 17, 1983. Monday’s ceremony was held to celebrate the PCC’s 31th anniversary.
The Phuket Chamber of Commerce is an organization set up to support local business operators and to be part of the economic development that reflects the growth of Phuket economy and the needs of the people. It also acts as a bridge between government offices and private sectors.
