Phuket information to be used for TV weather forecastOn 2nd December 2014, Dr. Choosak Limsakul – Chancellor for Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus presided over the signing of an MoU between the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Earth System Science, Andaman Natural Disaster Management (ESSAND) and TNN24 to agree for production of a “TNN Weather” TV program which will feature weather reports and data which has been produced using computer models and algorithms developed by Dr. Chinnawat Surassavadee – Director of ESSAND.

Dr. Choosak said “Research into weather forecasting and disaster warnings is considered to be one of the most important of all ongoing researches. The Prince of Songkla University Phuket Campus is continuously predicting on rain fall on the island and its predictions are seen to be sufficiently precise and useful to the general public. It is also possible to publish their information so that it can be used in conjunction with the Department of Meteorology. The TNN TV channel has recognized the standard of the campus’ research, which is very welcome news, and TNN will now be using information gained from the campus to use in their TV weather reports and forecasts which are broadcast all over the country.”

Dr. Chinnawat said “It is great news that our information will be used in TNN’s weather forecasts. With our equipment we can predict the weather approximately 24-28 hours in advance and we can locate rainfall not only in the province but all over South East Asia and the information we gather can be of great use to society. By observing satellite information we can gather detailed information on rainfall which will assist with water management projects. Any person who may be interested can check the information at www.worldmeteorology.com and via the WMApp mobile application.”
