From 9th until 12th May 2013, the event “Visit Malaysia Year 2014 Travel Fair” was held at the Grand Hall 1st Fl, Central Festival Phuket. The event was organised by Tourism Malaysia Phuket Office, Malaysia Airline, Qatar Airways and Thai Smile Airways.
Malaysia’s 2013 tourism calendar is packed with exciting events and colorful celebrations running up to the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) planned in 2014. Visit Malaysia Year 2014 is a campaign organised by Tourism Malaysia promoting tourism to the country internationally through several mega events and programs. Regardless of the month of visit, Malaysia promises visitors something special and unique to make their time there truly memorable and enjoyable!
At the event, visitors had a chance to learn more about the numerous Malaysian festivals and activities, including the Petronas F1 Malaysia Grand Prix, the Malaysia International Shoe Festival, the 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival and the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival.
Information on year-round holiday packages and tourism activities, including Malaysian Islamic tours, cycling packages and local culinary travel trails could also be found among the fair’s numerous booths.
Consul General of Malaysia in Songkhla, Mr. Mohd Faizal Razali said “Tourism is the third largest contributor to Malaysia’s foreign exchange earnings with revenue in 2011 being 58.3 billion MYR (US$19.35 billion), and tourism-related industries have employed almost 2 million people.
“The tourism industry has been identified as a key economic area with potential to generate high revenue for the country. By 2020, the industry is expected to attract 36 million tourists and bring 168 billion MYR in revenue.
