Some executives of a leading tour agent in China visited Phuket to make sure that the island was ready to welcome 5,000 Chinese tourists catching 36 charter flights to Phuket soon. This group of Chinese tourists would be the first to travel to Phuket after the protest in Bangkok finished.
Suchart Hirankanokkul, the President of Thai Southern Hotel Association, revealed that the association had taken executives of the leading tour agent in China to inspect around Phuket before that company takes the tourists to Phuket on flights from China at the beginning of June. This group of tourists would stay in 3 – 5 star hotels around Phuket.
Suchart commented that this group of tourists was the first to travel to Phuket after China’s government had warned their people not to travel to Thailand during the violence in Bangkok. He expressed confidence that there should be other groups of Chinese tourists coming to travel in Phuket again in the short future. He also added that the hotel reservation rate in Phuket was getting better and during June 25th – 27th 2010, some Phuket tourism entrepreneurs would fly to join a tourism promotion fair in Beijing, China.
