(12 April 2012) Tourism Authority of Thailand(TAT) has clarified tourists about the earthquake and Tsunami warning. However, due to reliable warning systems and good tourism coordination, no cancellation has been made yet.
Mr Thawatchai Aranyik, Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, mentioned TAT has closely coordinated. As for Phuket where it’s packed with tourists, TAT is willing to facilitate tourists with transportation, food, and drink. However, he believed tourists understand that it is natural disaster and that Phuket is well-equipped.
Mairat Peerayakoset, chairman of Association of Domestic Travel, said this situation can lead to a tough time for tourism industries. Since it’s peak period and Songkarn festival, flights are fully booked and they can not be rescheduled. However, no cancellation has been made so far.
