At 7:50 on April 2nd 2013 at Phuket International Airport, Deputy Governor of Phuket – Ms. Sommai Prichasin together with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) – Phuket Office Director – Mr. Chanchai Duangjitt, Thai Airways’ Phuket District Sales Manager – Mr. Prasert Tanhan and representatives from the tourism industry welcomed the flag-carrier’s inaugural Phuket-New Delhi flight.
TAT New Delhi Office Director Runjuan Tongrut led some 100 passengers including 5 major tour operators, members of the press, and tourists, on the first flight to Phuket.
Ms. Runjuan said “This new route was conceived to cater to an increasing demand of Indian travellers, who are interested in Thailand’s beach side destinations such as Phuket. More than 1 million Indian holidaymakers arrived in the kingdom in 2012, each of which spent an average of nearly 5,000 baht per day.“
The Tourism Authority expects more than 1.1 million Indian travellers in 2013.
