Phuket Tourism Market increases 10% from Weddings/Honeymoons

Suwanchai Rittirak, Advisor to the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said “at present Thailand has been chosen as favorite destination for weddings and honeymoons. This is not only in Bangkok but also in major tourist provinces such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, etc, in which each province will have a different point of sale.

When tourists come to Thailand for a wedding or honeymoon they can be sure they will have a great choice of options, as each area will have a ceremony that offers a different theme, such as Phuket sells their old traditional culture, Krabi offers rock climbing marriages and Trang underwater weddings. It will also be at far less expense than in their home country.”

Suwanchai added “the marriage and honeymoon market is fast becoming more popular in Thailand than in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and India, because the cost is far less in Thailand. We also have many facilities for this market, resulting in continued growth.”

While Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket director Bangornrat Chinaprayoon said “in the past, Phuket has been chosen as a destination for weddings and honeymoons. This is due to the readiness of places such as the beautiful sandy beach or because of the ease of arranging the facilities for the ceremony, whether it be Western or traditional Thai. The result has seen market growth of 10-15% per year. However, because Phuket is well known to tourists the public relations presentations have to present the various facilities for these events to show that we are ready. Especially that the accommodation here is enough to support people’s needs and also to show the variety of atmosphere which is offered.
