On 8th May 2013 at Phuket Provincial Hall, Phuket Vice-Governor – Jamroen Tipayapongtada held a meeting together with the Working Group for Creating and Controlling the Administration System of Yacht Controlling Check Points in Chalong Bay. Also in attendance at the meeting were President of Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation – Paiboon Upatising, Phuket Marine Officer – Sakorn Poodum, Capt Krissada Rattanasupa of the Royal Thai Navy and officers of Phuket Immigration and Phuket Customs.
Mr Sakorn said “Chalong Pier was supposed to provide the 3,000 yachts that visit Phuket every year with a “One Stop Service” and at present it is still not able to do so and we can’t control the boats that are coming and going. What we want to do is implement a marine traffic control system that will see GPS installed in every yacht that arrives in Phuket at the control point at Chalong Pier and a deposit left by the yacht owners. Once the yachts want to leave they will return to Chalong Pier and return the GPS, and the deposit will be returned. This will allow us to have better control over the boats, allowing us to know where they go to after registering at the pier.
PPAO President Khun Paiboon said PPAO, owners of Chalong Pier, needs to implement a proper process for checking boats coming in. If we don’t do this it could lead to big problems.
