Phuket hotels gained valuable points in 2012The Thai Hotel Association has said that in 2012 Phuket’s hotel business gained valuable points in occupancy and room rate, but the industries performance was affected by the existence of illegal hotels.

Speaking at the recent ATTA/THA Annual General Meeting press conference, THA president Surapong Techaruvichit said occupancy in Phuket grew 3% to 72%, while the ADR improved 5% to US$120 from US$114.

However, to raise room revenue to a profitable level, the THA president said it was essential the government crackdown on illegal hotels.
