Phuket Governor – Road Closure Will Not Affect Tourism

Phuket Governor – Road Closure Will Not Affect TourismPhuket Governor – Maitree Intusut insisted yesterday that there will be no impact on the island’s tourism industry following the closure by local villagers of Thepkasattri Road, Ban Mak Prok in Tambol Mai Khao. He said “After the negotiations with the protesters reached an agreement and the protesters removed themselves from the road, traffic was flowing normally within 45 minutes. However, Phuket would like to apologise to anybody that was stuck in the traffic. It’s down to Phuket to prevent this kind of incident reoccurring. Dialogue is required between all parties involved in such incident so that each party understands one and others points of view. If this is done problems can be resolved much earlier and quicker, and these incidents don’t have to happen.”

Khun Anoma Wongyai – Director of TAT Phuket added “We coordinated with the Phuket Tourist Police to clear a lane of traffic so that vehicles that needed to reach the airport could do so. Unfortunately, some flights were postponed, such as international airlines including Air Berlin. Business and leisure travellers who were stranded and did miss their flights were flying on alternative flights with no charge. During the incident, all relevant agencies cooperated very well together to helps tourists as much as they could. They are an innocent party in this whole incident.”
