New coral reef discovered off coast of Phang-nga

Marine Biologist from Phuket Marine Biological Center, Chaimongkol Yamarunpattana revealed that the centre found new coral reef off coast of Koh Kho Khao, Phang-nga Province. “E-tan Rock” that has been discovered is situated 5 sea miles off the coast, covering a massive area of 300 rai,  submerged underwater at about 25 metres deep from the surface. It is believed that this coral reef is connected with the Koh Kah’s shallow reef.

The reef provides shelter for many animals including corals, sponges, encrusting coral, sea anemone, anemonefish, squid, sponge, sea urchin etc.

This is just an initial period of exploration. The biologists of the centre has a plan to collect more details and information again in another survey scheduled early next year.

Biologist Chaimongkol said the reef has a potential to be a new diving spot in Adaman region.
