Restaurants and Hotels across the Asian region. Our team (the ‘Jury’) works across the region to assess and reward those operators that excel in the segments of restaurants, fine dining, local food, burgers & pizza, bars, cafes and hotels.
Asia Top80 is the latest project of globally recognised and respected Farmani Group (USA), led by founder Mr. Hossien Farmani.
The Farmani Group is a leading player in the curation and promotion of photography, design and architecture awards across the globe. The Group is the facilitator of nearly two dozen globally-recognized awards, lists and honors, bestowed annually since 1985, including the IHRA (International Restaurant and Hotel Awards) and the IPA (International Photographers Award).
Asia Top80 provides deep coverage of the region’s culinary and hospitality markets with Top80 lists spanning Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Cambodia, South Korea and Japan. We will expand across more countries around Asia in 2021.
Miss Wantipa Chareonchit, Vice President of Asia Top80, said that the Asia Top80 winners are selected by a strictly anonymous Jury process. The Juries are well-educated and experienced in hospitality world-wide. A very holistic view of the candidate is at the core of the Jury remit. This includes assessment of creativity, food / dish balance, the use of local customs & ingredients, cleanliness, service and atmosphere. That is, ‘real-world’ criteria that ‘real people’ can relate to.
In early December 2020 Wantipa Chareonchit visited Khun Jutharat Nilhat, Assistant Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand (Phuket Office) to provide an overview of the Asia Top80 project. In particular, it was discussed how Asia Top80 was looking forward to providing the Phuket tourism industry with much needed profiling of the Island’s incredibly exciting hotel and culinary scene to tourists around the globe.
Khun Jutharat Nilhat agreed that such efforts were most welcomed by the Phuket community, noting that in excess of 80% of the Phuket economy is heavily reliant on the tourism sector. She was very happy and thankful for Asia Top80’s initiatives to help drive tourism and increased activity across the restaurant and hotel business sectors in Phuket. Furthermore, she was very confident the Asia Top80 project will be successful in pushing the local economies forward today and in the future.
More broadly Hossien Farmani explained that from his many years of experience of traveling around the world, it is important to recognise the special status Asia holds in the culinary and hospital world, particularly high value ‘foodie’ tourists from Western markets. Their love of local food culture is particularly true for the likes of Thailand, Japan and Vietnam. He hopes that the Asia Top80 Awards will further underpin the well-deserved standing of the culinary scene in the region.
