On February 8th 2011 at 7.00 p.m., the 12th Phuket Old Town Festival and Chinese New Year 2011 were officially opened. The event was held in the area of the Queens Park, near to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket’s Office. There were many honorable guests attending the event. The event was presided over by Mr.Somchai Sinanglai, the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Culture.
The 12th Phuket Old Town Festival and Chinese New Year 2011 is being held by Phuket City Municipality, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket’s Office, Peranakan Association, OLD TOWN PHUKET community, Phuket Old Town Foundation, and Phuket locals on February 8th, 9th & 10th 2011, in the area of Queens Park and Phuket Old Town. It aims to promote Phuket’s original way of life together with tourism and old building conservation.
There was a photo shoot competition under the topic of ‘Phuket Old Town’s Way of Life’. The winner of the competition would be awarded the trophy of HRH Princess Sirinthorn and cash. Moreover, there was a light and sound performance with Sino- Portuguese buildings as the background. There were plenty of local food stalls, products, and souvenirs at the event. Also, everyone could enjoy live music from various local artists and a special show from China.
