On October 23rd 2013, PPAO Chief Executive – Mr. Paiboon Upattising presided over the opening of a youth camp entitled “Take Less, Give More,” which took place October 23rd & 24th 2013 at Chalerm Phrakiat Somdet Phra Sri Nakarin Phuket School. Joining Mr. Paiboon were Director of PPAO Office of Education Religion and Culture – Mr. Ouaiporn Sakultan, PPAO Council Deputy Chairman – Mr. Prasarn Prateep Na Talang, PPAO Council Members – Mr. Theera Jiasakul, Mr. Opas Chopdi, Miss Wisansaya Polsin & Miss Supreeya Iam-Wiwatanakul, and PPAO officers. Also in attendance were Phuket Business and Professional Women Association (BPW), Young Business and Professional Women Phuket Group (YBPW), along with guests, the media, and Phuket youth representatives.
On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of and to pay homage to HM King Bhumiphol, PPAO, together with the BPW and YBPW, organized the youth camp which aimed at raising awareness among Phuket’s youngsters of the value of being both a good and able person. The camp saw 100 of Phuket’s upper secondary level students participate in the camp.
The objective of the “Take Less, Give More” youth camp was to encourage young people to take part in the process of solving problems, community development, and the preservation of culture and environment. On a whole, it aimed to raise awareness among young people, via the participants, to cherish and realize the true values of the community, develop public volunteering spirit, be responsible individuals, to have the strength to say no to drug and alcohol abuse, and to promote unity and understanding. It also aimed to develop the potential of the young participants in all areas of community and society development.
At the opening Mr. Paiboon said: “I am honored to open this project. When PPAO Council Members Miss Wisalaya Polsin and Miss Supreeya Iam-Wiwatanakul informed me of the intention of BPW and YBPW to organize this workshop, I totally agreed to their idea because I always believe that human development is the most important form of development. During these two days, participants will learn more than they could in the classroom. It is not difficult to be academically excellent – you just have to study and pass the exams. But real life is different. You have to be both intelligent and also be able. You have been given the chance to study with experienced and knowledgeable workshop leaders and I am confident the lessons will be invaluable to you. The most important thing is that you can work as a team and learn the idea behind the concept “Take Less, Give More”, that is to give goodwill and a smile, things which are more valuable than giving money. From now on, please make sure you give a smile and amity and appreciation. Furthermore, you should show your gratitude towards your parents by being a good person, stay away from drugs, think good thoughts and say only good things. People with positive attitude will succeed in life.”
He added “I also believe that new waves will always be stronger than the last ones and hope you will become our great future generations. You will also be good models for the next generation to come. I thank all organizers on behalf of PPAO. We all want to sow the seed of goodness and make Phuket a model for development. I believe we Thais are lucky to be born here under the realm of HM the King who is the Father of our Land. He is the greatest developer and we must follow in his footstep!”
