Phuket International Sports & Leisure Club has appointed the excellently credentialed Kevin Hokay Lai as the Head Swim Coach of Aquatics Centre.
US-born Mr Lai was previously the Head Age Group Coach for the Hong Kong Island Stingrays. During his two-year tenure he coached 35 swimmers to qualify for the Hong Kong Nationals, in addition to having eight swimmers ranked in the top eight in their respective events in Hong Kong.
In the US Mr Lai worked for seven years as Co-Head Age Group Coach of Orinda Aquatics, developing more than 40 swimmers ranked in the national top 16, as well as coaching 20 juniors who qualified for the national team.
In addition to this, Mr Lai was also the Co-Head Coach of Miramonte High School Swim Team, which finished in the top three in Northern Californian high schools for 10 years in a row during state swimming competitions.
“I am excited to be joining the Phuket International Sports & Leisure Club’s Aquatics Centre as it will be a world-class facility and sports club when it becomes fully operational, not only in Thailand but in Asia,” Mr Lai said.
“It is a really good opportunity for me to be able to look over all aquatics operations and hopefully develop local and international swimming talent to reach their full potential.”
