The 1st ‘Phuket Fun Fly’ paragliding event took off

On May 21st 2010, at the Windmill hill near Cape Promthep in Rawai, Tri Akaradecha, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over the grand opening of Phuket Fun Fly festival being held in Phuket for first time during May 21st – 23rd 2010 under cooperation between various organizations including Phuket province, Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, Thai Glider Club, Rawai Municipality and TAT Phuket.

There were over 50 paragliders from Thailand and other countries joining the event. The world 1996 paragliding champion, who attended the festival showed his excellent paragliding skill to the audiences.  In addition, there were paragliding demonstrations letting reporters or public fly up into the sky with gliders.

Tri said that the event & sport is a new tourism activity in Phuket, especially good for the green season and the island presented an appropriate location for this sport.  He commented that the paragliding event could possibly be one of Phuket’s annual competitions in the future.
