Thanyapura Phuket’s reputation as a revolutionary sports and active lifestyle destination is soaring higher than ever after it pulled off a major achievement to land the Davis Cup tie between Thailand and Hong Kong.
The Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT) decided to move the February 14-16 Asia-Oceania round one clash from Bangkok to the world-class megaplex due to the political unrest in the capital.
Shifting the event to Thanyapura was a no-brainer given its cutting edge facilities and proven track record in hosting major tennis tournaments.
To date this is the highest profile event landed by the facility, which is enjoying a hugely successful push to export its Thanyapura Active Healthy Lifestyle concept globally and acquire a world-class reputation as a complete sports events and training complex.
Thanyapura’s Executive Chairman, four-time triathlon world champion Chris McCormack, said securing the Davis Cup tie further cemented the facility’s reputation as Asia’s leading active lifestyle destination.
Mr. McCormack said it also built on the international reputation of the Thanyapura’s Tennis Academy, which for the past two years had hosted a women’s round of the prestigious International Tennis Federation Pro Circuit.
“The Davis Cup is one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. So to be entrusted with such a storied brand is a huge gift for us,” he said. “Thanyapura’s philosophy is ‘get more out of life’, which the elite athletes set to descend on Phuket perfectly illustrate. It is an ideal marriage.”
Thailand will be spearheaded by Pruchya Isarow and Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul at the tie, with the home team enjoying a 4-1 advantage over Hong Kong in Davis Cup meetings. Other two Thai players include Warit Sornbutnark and Nuttanon Kadchapanan.
The players will be treated to the very best at the Tennis Academy, which has six indoor and outdoor Plexicushion courts – the same surface used at the Australian Open. Accommodation will be provided at the onsite Thanyapura Sports Hotel .
As well as hosting international and regional tennis events, teams from around the world use the state-of-the-art academy as a training base.
The recently appointed Mr. McCormack, who has already had a huge impact on enhancing Thanyapura’s reputation, said: “We have established ourselves as a force to be reckoned with in the sports and active lifestyle space in Asia. We see landing the Davis Cup tie as another chance to showcase our brand and a springboard to greater success.”
The Thanyapura Active Healthy Lifestyle concept begins with its renowned three-dimensional coaching approach that is aimed at people from all walks of life and utilises a blend of cutting edge training techniques and world-class coaches, consultants and facilities.
There is also a focus on the mental aspect of sport through the Thanyapura Mind Centre, while overall health and wellness from the latest scientific perspective comes via the ground-breaking Thanyapura Integrative Health Centre.
