Surakul stadium erupted late last night as around 3,000 Phuket fans celebrated victory against Thai Premier League side Police United in the 2nd leg of the 2014 Thai League Cup. But as is usual with Phuket FC the game didn’t go without some crowd frustration.
It was Police United who opened the scoring in the first half with ex Phuket FC striker ‘Dudu’ slotting in an easy goal past young Phuket FC keeper Prapat Yoskrai. However, Phuket FC fought back in the 2nd half with Brazilian striker Eber putting a beautifully taken free kick into the top right hand corner of Police United’s goal.
At the end of the full 90 minutes Police United were reduced to 9 men, Phuket were down to 10 and the score remained at 1 – 1, meaning the teams faced a further 30 minutes of extra time. Once again Phuket didn’t take advantage of their 1 player advantage, much to the frustration of the fans, and after extra time the score still stayed at 1 – 1, meaning a dreaded penalty shoot out.
But it was Phuket who came out 3 – 1 victors in the shoot out with Christian Alex, Pyne Soe, and Henrique all putting away their penalties.
