Phuket youth Maneepong Jongjit wins world junior title

13 November 2009 – Phuket-born Maneepong Jongjit and his partner Rodjana Chuthabunditkul wins the first ever mixed doubles pair gold medal for the Thais after pulling off a stunning victory over the Indonesian pair of Angga Pratama-Destiara Haris Della in BWF World Junior Championships 2009 held in Kedah from Oct 23-Nov 1.

Maneepong and Rodjana beat the Indonesians 21-19, 14-21, 21-17 in 38 minutes.

By beating off top seeded Chinese players in semi-final the other Thai teammates Ratchanok Intanon and Porntip Buranaprasertsu face each other for the title. The final result, Ratchanok Intanon took the women’s singles title with a straight-set 21-15, 21-23, 21-10 win over Porntip Buranaprasertsuk.

President Phuket Sports Association Chettawit Tantipanwadee said that the event is like a new history that will make the difference for badminton sport in Thailand and Phuket. Besides Maneepong Jongjit, we also have Nichaon Jindapol who is a player of Thai national team, as a new hope.
