The Ronins went into the game in 7th place after a 2-0 midweek win over Khon Kaen, and a victory against Roi Et was much needed to keep their chances of promotion to the Thai Premier League this season alive.
It was Phuket who opened the scoring, with defender Prachya Hong-In putting the home team ahead in the 18th minute of the game. And much to the delight of the fans Phuket extended their lead 7 minutes later after Ney Fabiano took full advantage of being left unmarked after seeing Christian Alex’s long range shot come of the post. It remained at 2-0 to Phuket at the end of the first 45 minutes.
The second half saw very little action from Phuket, and much of the time the ball was kept in their half of the pitch. And late into the second 45 minutes Roi Et were rewarded with a late penalty which their Trinidad and Tobago Striker Darryl Roberts easily put away.
The important 3 points saw Phuket jump 2 places to fifth in the table, and with 25 points they are now only 2 points away from the last automatic promotion place. However, to really keep up with a chance of promotion they really need to start getting some results away from home. So far this season they have only managed 1 win in 8 away from home, with only 2 draws and 5 loses, and their next league game is away to Ayutthaya who have already beaten Phuket in the FA Cup earlier in the season, and a game that was played on Phuket soil.
