On Saturday evening, 1st February 2014, Phuket FC took on Thai Premier League side Chonburi FC in one of the team’s last pre-season warm ups before the Yamaha League One season kicks off on 22nd February.
Although it was a friendly, it was clear that both teams were looking for a win, in what turned out to be an exciting match. Early in the first half, Phuket showed a lot of determination and surprised the visitors on a number of occasions. However, Chonburi also created some good chances, but Phuket’s two central defenders Tales and Sato, were impressive and showed a good partnership.
It was Chonburi who broke the deadlock late in the first half with last season’s top scorer Thiago flicking a header into the left hand side of the goal. However, moments later, and seconds before the half time whistle blew, Phuket’s Brazilian striker Ney Fabiano put his head onto a great cross and powered the header down and past the Chonburi keeper.
Although both teams created a lot of chances in the second half neither team could find the back of the net and the game finished at 1- 1.
