2014 Laguna Phuket International Marathon, the 9th edition of the annual Run Paradise race which brings thousands to Phuket each year, was previewed on Wednesday, 14 May 2014 for media by organisers and sponsors in a special conference room at Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) in Bangkok.
The Bangkok conference was addressed by Khun Santi Pawai, Director of the Phuket Office of Tourism & Sport representing the Phuket Governor, Khun Prapa Hemmin, Director of Sales-MICE & Corporate Events, Laguna Phuket, representative from Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT). Also presented at the Conference were sponsors and partners of the event.
The multi-media event showcased new event logo in preparation for next year’s 10th anniversary celebration. This year’s race which includes marathon, half-marathon, 10.5km run, 5km walk/run, and 2km kids run expects to see 5,000 participants.
Like every year, athletes booking their slots in Laguna Phuket’s 2014 marathon and triathlon series are being asked to raise funds through donations and sponsorships for the resort’s long established “Laguna Phuket Foundation” to operate its various charitable programmes. Over the years, more than THB 4.6 million was raised to fund such initiatives as the recently launched “Fully Booked!” Mobile Learning Centre.
“I am very pleased to announce that Laguna Phuket has launched “Fully Booked!” Mobile Learning Centre in Phuket on 25th April this year. Thanks to you all, the Centre is ready to service schoolchildren in Phuket and its neighboring provinces starting this June,” said Khun Prapa Hemmin, Director of Sales-MICE & Corporate Events, Laguna Phuket.
“It is our hope to make the race a Run Paradise, at which runners enjoy running, meeting their peers and participating in fulfilling charitable causes”
Laguna Phuket Foundation will continue its fundraising activities at Laguna Phuket’s annual sports events including the marathon in June, Laguna Phuket Triathlon, and Challenge Laguna Phuket in November this year.
This year’s LPIM will also continue its “Green Runner” concept following last year’s success in replacing plastic cup with reusable resin cup on the run course. 40 volunteered “Official Sweeper” will try to pick up and clear out trash on the course as much as they can.
