Leading Thailand hospitality group, Kata Group Resorts, is continuing its drive to promote Phuket as Asia’s premier sports tourism destination by sponsoring the Phuket International Cricket Week 2015.
The week is an Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) event made up of the 12th Annual Phuket International Cricket Sixes Tournament (April 16-19) and the 4th Annual Kata International Cricket 7s Tournament (April 22-24).
A total of 24 cricket teams will take part from Asia Pacific and the Middle East, including from Australia, Bangkok, Bangladesh, Dubai, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Pakistan, Phuket and Qatar. The event will be held at the picturesque Republic Phuket ground in Chalong district.
Kata Group Resorts President, Pramookpisitt Achariyachai, said he was delighted to partner ACST for a fourth year running in an event that not only raised the profile of Phuket as a destination for high quality sporting events in the region but assisted in the development of young sporting programmes on the island.
“We are a good team and I am pleased to continue our support of such a professionally run event. Cricket is a world renowned sport and we are honoured to again host the event and showcase Phuket as a strong and very capable destination for sports tourism.”
Kata Group Resorts also are a title sponsor of the annual Kings Cup Regatta sailing event in December and Mr Achariyachai is the owner of Phuket Football Club.
The Phuket International Cricket Festival 2015 will see the ACST chalk up 40 tournaments since their foundation in 2000, with a further 50 events represented, as the organization goes from strength to strength in fulfilling its philosophy of “Friendship Through Cricket”.
ACST Chairman Michael Maher said he was very much looking forward to the upcoming events that would again see former winning teams take part and defend their trophies.
“We have a lot of fun. The ‘Fun In The Sun’ slogan is how we like to approach the events, but there is also a serious side to the competition and all the teams will be looking to do their best and I expect there to be some very competitive cricket played,” he said.
“Kata Group Resorts and ACST share the same objectives in sports development and having fun on holiday and we are very grateful for their ongoing support.”
The proceeds of the event will go to the development of junior cricket in Thailand and for junior sport at the Republic Phuket ground.
