Chelsea beat Manchester United 4-1 on penalties at Wembley after the teams drew 2-2 in 90 minutes.
Chelsea got off to a terrible start conceding first 10 minutes, but second-half goals from both Carvalho and Lampard were enough to lead Chelsea for the Community Shield, only for Rooney who shot in the last action of normal time, forcing penalties.
The London side made no mistake for all four of their spot-kicks while Giggs and Evra missed their penalties for United.
Not only losing the trophy but also Nani who will have missed the first game of Premeir League for United. Portuguese winger went off after cradling a shoulder injury and was replaced by summer signing Valencia.
There was an element of controversy about the 2nd goal for Chelsea. Michael Ballack appeared to body-check Evra off-the-ball but referee, Chris Foy, waved play-on as Rooney had possession. But lastly he lost the ball Chelsea played on by Lampard who found the net with a goal from just outside the area to the bottom left corner of the goal. Chelsea 2-1 Man Utd.
However, Rooney grabbed a goal from inside the penalty box low into the middle of the goal in the last action of normal time.
