Around 5,000 fans came out to Surakul Stadium last night, 11th June 2014, to watch Phuket FC take on Premier League side Bangkok Glass in the third round of Toyota League Cup. Phuket fans were hoping for a good result having already seen Phuket knock out two Premiership teams in the previous rounds.
Phuket started brightly and had better possession and chances in the first half; both Ney Fabiano & Eber came close to scoring but were unable to find the net. Bangkok Glass tried to press forward but on many occasions Phuket’s defence managed to steal the ball away deep in their half and stop any really scoring opportunities. The teams went in level at 0 – 0 at the end of the first half.
However, it was Bangkok Glass who started the second half brighter and were really putting the pressure on Phuket who really couldn’t put any attacking chances together. And Bangkok Glass’ hard work paid off in the 69th minute when their defender Jetsadakorn Hemdaeng took advantage of poor goalkeeping by Adisak Duangsri and gave the visitors a 1 goal lead.
Coach Teco made changes late in the second half with Phuket’s main playmaker, Brazilian Eber replaced by Eakartit Somjit, and minutes later Brazilian forward Christian Alex replaced by defender Tales dos Santos. Unfortunately, the changes made no difference and Phuket could not find the equalizer they needed to take the game into extra time.
Although it was a disappointing loss for The Ronins, at least they now only have to concentrate on keeping their chances of promotion in the league alive..
