2013 Phuket Vegetarian Festival Dates Announced
On 21th August 2013, Phuket Vice Governor – Somkiat Sangkhaosutthirak together with Phuket Deputy Governor – Chaiwat Thepee, Director of Culture of Phuket – Tawichat Intorarit and Chairman of the Phuket Shrines – Prasert Fakthongphol presided over a meeting regarding the Phuket Vegetarian Festival 2013.
Khun Tawichat said “Phuket Vegetarian Festival 2013 will be held from 5th until 13th October 2013 keeping with the traditions of old Phuket, and helping to promote the provinces tourism. As usual, the festival will include street processions from Chinese Shrines, Jade Emperor & Nine Emperor Propitiation, Lantern Pole Raising, Fire-Walking Rituals, Food-Offering Ritual to Heavenly Warriors and the Bridge-Crossing Ritual.”
Khun Somkiat added “It has been ordered that relevant authorities take care of the safety of all Ma Songs (Middlemen), control the use of firecrackers, control the price of goods and also keep all the roads clean and tidy.”
