Rock Salt beachside restaurant will offer revelers a choice of delicious homemade German delicacies washed down with a selection of refreshing beers
PHUKET, THAILAND – THE NAI HARN, Phuket’s leading luxury resort, is inviting guests and foodies to break out the dirndls and lederhosen in honour of fine German cuisine and beer during a special (Rock)toberfest event to be held at the resort’s stylish Rock Salt beachside eatery on 6 – 7 October.
Transporting Bavaria’s best-loved festival to Phuket, diners will be able to enjoy a range of traditional house-made German specialties, including Bratwurst, Rostbratwurst and Weißwurst, all created specially for The Nai Harn by guest master butcher Marc-Frederic Berry, who trained the kitchen team to prepare all the items in house and will also attend the events himself.
Other delectable specialties on the menu will include Schweinshaxe, or roasted pork knuckle, and Flammekueche, the famous white pizza from the south of Germany. More familiar German classics such as Chicken schnitzel, as well as a modern interpretation of Black Forest Gateau will add to the unique gourmet attractions.
An Oktoberfest celebration wouldn’t be complete without Bavarian beers, and as diners soak up Rock Salt’s seaside atmosphere and savour the German flavours, they can sip on a variety of imported Bavarian brews. The line-up includes Kloster Weltenburg Dunkel, Kloster Weltenburg Urtyp, Erdinger Urweisse, Erdinger Dunkel and Erdinger Oktoberfest, each one offered at the special price of THB 220 per 0.5-litre bottle.
With a range of different treats on offer during lunch and dinner, guests can grab a bite and beer before heading to the beach during the day or, as the sun sets, absorb the ambience of stunning Nai Harn Bay while they enjoy soothing tunes from the decks of the resort’s new resident Thai DJ, LEEBREE, who spins his musical magic for an even more chilled holiday vibe. “The Nai Harn is known for its eclectic mix of world class cuisine and thanks to the enviable beachfront setting Rock Salt has become a favourite dining spot for hotel guests and Phuket residents,” says the resort’s General Manager, Frank Grassmann.
“(Rock)toberfest will not only offer diners even more international flavours, it will also showcase our culinary team’s wide ranging skills while offering a picture perfect opportunity to enjoy a rare taste of Bavaria by the Andaman Sea,” he adds.
PHUKET, THAILAND – The Nai Harn Phuket is already known for its gourmet cuisine, fine wines and dramatic oceanside location, but the luxury beach resort recently added a whole new level of exclusivity to guests’ dining options.
The chef has created a choice of special private dining menus catering to couples seeking an intimate meal for two, or families and friends looking to host a more social BBQ, with Thai and International cuisine prepared and served on the spacious private terraces that connect to each of The Nai Harn’s 130 rooms and suites, most of which also feature fabulous four-poster daybeds to lounge on before and after the feast.
Guests can savour a romantic dinner on their own secluded dining terrace under a canopy of sparkling stars while also exploring the exquisite flavours of Thailand’s timeless culinary classics. Alternatively, they can indulge in the bounty of a succulent BBQ that blends the fruits of sea with the best of the land to create the perfect beachside feast.
Six delectable menus offer a unique combination of fine flavours to accompany the stunning panoramic vistas of Nai Harn Bay. Guests can dine whilst drinking in the natural beauty of the resort’s stunning hillside setting and gaze out across a bay dotted with sail boats with small islets decorating the picturesque horizon.
According to The Nai Harn’s General Manager, Frank Grassmann, there is an ever increasing appetite amongst global guests for individual experiences that are personalised and unique.
“Private dining is perfect way to create an intimate and exclusive atmosphere, or to let guests chill out with a laid-back yet delicious meal on their own terrace,” he says. “There is real demand from sophisticated guests to dine without leaving the comfort of their room or suite. Yet they still want to enjoy the luxury of world class cuisine. As with our restaurant menus, the private-dining menus were specially designed to offer the freshest, most appetizing dishes and to help really define The Nai Harn Phuket as a world class gourmet dining destination.”
Options for guests in search of a unique and exclusive dining experience include the Phuket Heritage Candle Light Dinner, which comprises four courses showcasing dishes that are part of Thailand’s culinary history. Meanwhile, for food lovers with more of an international taste there’s a Mediterranean themed meal featuring whole baked seabass as a main course served with, crisp fresh garden vegetables.
The BBQ sets offer a choice of seafood only, or can include meat too, and they are prepared ‘live’ on the private terrace and served with fresh salad and a choice of sauces, sides and desserts. Diners can enjoy a relaxed Thai-style grill set featuring prawns skewered on lemongrass, swimmer crab, squid, and the local catch-of-the-day served with Thai spices, or tuck into a meaty Mediterranean grill including mint-spiced lamb kofka, rosemary and mascarpone chicken escalope, and Kurobuta pork skewers.
“In addition to private dining experiences, we also take our guests on a choice of culinary adventures at our all-day dining venue, Cosmo Restaurant, or in the resort’s beachside eatery, Rock Salt. They can also enjoy dining at Reflections rooftop lounge and savour the fresh flavours of our newly opened Sushi & Sashimi Bar, Hansha, part of the same expansive rooftop space,” added Mr. Grassmann.

Celebrated wine expert conducts two days of blind tastings to identify the ‘best of the best’ pinks in two price categories.
Following the successful inauguration of the ‘Best Rosé for Thailand’ contest in 2016, leading luxury resort THE NAI HARN once again partnered with international wine expert James Suckling this year to sniff out the ‘pinnacle of the pinks’.
In the second edition of the Kingdom’s only wine competition to focus on premier Rosé, Mr Suckling conducted a series of blind tastings on 11,12 May scoring each wine from am extensive entry list of varied wines put forward by a strong line-up of leading wine suppliers to Thailand.
After the intensive tasting sessions, and with help form his son and protégé Jack Suckling, James selected 12 wines for this year’s awards. The winning wines were announced during a glamorous awards party on 12 May at The Nai Harn’s al fresco Reflections lounge, where guests were invited to sample all the rosés in the competition accompanied by tasty bites served from live cooking station and framed by the stunning backdrop of Phuket’s picture perfect Nai Harn bay.
A total of 80 rosé wines entered this year’s contest, including labels from France, Italy, Chile, Spain, and Australia, as well as some top homegrown Thai vintage. The submitted rosés were separated into two categories based on wholesale price – those below THB 800 (USD 23), and those above. Based on these categories, James Suckling selected the the Top 10 Rosés for Thailand judging the wines or their quality and value for money. Friends the list, he also selected his Best Affordable Rosé, and the Best Rosé in Show.
The overall Best Rosé award went to Château d’Esclans Côtes de Provence Garrus Rosé 2014, imported to Thailand through BB&B, which James scored an impressive 96 points. In the Best Value Rosé category, the winner was Château Routas Coteaux Varois en Provence Rosé 2016, imported by Italasia, which was given 93 points and also claimed the number one spot in the Top 10 Rosés for Thailand list based on quality and price.
During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Suckling noted that Thailand produced rosés made a strong impression led by the GranMonte Syrah Asoke Valley Sakuna Rosé 2016 which made came eighth overall.
“We are delighted to return to THE NAI HARN to judge the excellent wines entered for this unique contest. Although the rosés from Provence are still the best in the world, it’s impressive indeed to find a Thai produced wine in the Top 10 once again this year, an achievement that’s thoroughly deserved,” Mr. Suckling said. “Rosés are best enjoyed in warm climates with light, flavourful cuisine and Phuket offers both of these essential ingredients in abundance,” he added.
Following the competition, the Top 10 rosé wines will be featured as part of the exclusive “Cellar by JamesSuckling.com” at THE NAI HARN, a curated selection of wines available exclusively at Reflections, Cosmo and Rock Salt restaurant.
THE NAI HARN was also the first resort on Phuket to offer Frosé (Frozen Rosé), an iced wine cocktail inspired by summer vacation trends to the south of Europe. The resort’s unique Frosé is made with Italian rosé wine (‘Terre Di Talamo Toscana PIANO PIANO Rosato 2015,’ rated 91/100 by James Suckling), and features fresh strawberries, vodka and grenadine.
“Rosé wines are a perfect complement to Phuket’s tropical climate and we are honoured to have the opportunity to partner with the world’s foremost wine expert to highlight the best pinks in the market, also to ensure our guests enjoy the finest wining and dining while staying with us,” said Frank Grassmann, General Manager of THE NAI HARN. “Our partnership with James Suckling underlines our commitment to offer the very best international cuisine and drinks, not only in Phuket, but also in Thailand,” added Mr Grassmann.
