Phuket’s Mom Tri’s Kitchen hosts exclusive Thai cooking eventSaturday 3rd May 2014 saw Mom Tri’s Villa Royale’s award winning restaurant, Mom Tri’s Kitchen, play host to a very special food event entitled “Key to Thai Food Treasure Box”, which was hosted by Bangkok born Chef, author and TV presenter Su-Mei Yu.

Su- Mei Yu emigrated to America at 15 years of age and opened her first restaurant Saffron, in 1985. Saffron was the first Thai restaurant in San Diego and is still going strong after nearly 30 years in business. She is the author of Cracking the Coconut: Classic Thai Home Cooking, and winner of the Julia Child Award, and Asian Grilling. She has also appeared on numerous national television shows, including Today, Good Morning America, The Martha Stewart Show and The Cooking Channel.

Phuket’s VR Gallery opens latest exhibition

Phuket’s VR Gallery opens latest exhibitionSaturday 19th April 2014 saw Singburi born but Phuket based artist Luxsana (Nok) Charernsri open her latest exhibition, Love is the Reason, at Mom Tri’s Villa Royale’s VR Gallery.

Nok studied art at the Faculty of Fine Arts Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a Major in Painting and Minor in Sculpture. She currently teaches art at Phuket International Academy Day School.

The exhibition runs until 30th June 2014.

Love is the Reason Exhibition at Phuket’s VR GalleryVR Gallery at Phuket’s Mom Tri’s Villa Royale is pleased to announce the dates for its latest exhibition; Love is the Reason by Luxsana Charernsri (Nok).

Born in the Singburi province, in central Thailand, Nok studied art from 2001 to 2006 at the Faculty of Fine Arts Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a Major in Painting and Minor in Sculpture.

In 2005, the Thai Ministry of Culture, Office of the National Culture Commission and the Thai Art Council. Thailand supported Nok to help her attend an Art museum and Curation field trip and art workshop in USA. At the same time, she was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture (MOC) to put on an exhibition in Bangkok.

Nok is currently an assistant arts teacher at the island’s private Phuket International Academy Day School, and also provides one-on-one private lessons, and holds various kid and adult group art classes.

The exhibition opens on 19th April 2014 and runs until 30th June 2014.

Twomey Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2012 – This wine has as a light golden hay color with green edges. The aromatics burst forth with sweet custard apple, green melon and lemongrass notes accentuated by hints of fresh guava, candied pineapple, cream and brioche. On the palate, flavors of bright lime peel and citrus combine with hints of vanilla custard and grapefruit pith. The wine has ample weight on the mid-palate with a bright acid backbone supporting a creamy richness and notes of pie crust, leading to a clean crisp lingering finish.

Twomey Pinot Noir Russian River 2011 – A wine with a red rose petal to ruby color. It has a nose of potpourri, strawberry jam, conifer bark, wild chanterelles and black truffle with hints of cinnamon, ginger and chocolate. On the palate, the wine is fruit-sweet and very full-bodied with flavors of ripe red berries and malt. It finishes with bright acidity and medium grained tannins.

Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 1997 – The 1997 Napa Valley is a wine of extraordinary intensity and depth. It has a very dark garnet color and a concentrated nose of cassis, roasting coffee, chocolate, violets and sandalwood. It is extremely rich on the palate, with a full body and a long, fruity intense finish.

Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2005 – A classic Alexander Valley cabernet, this is dark and cedary, and as smooth as velvet. The tannins last, built on black cherry-skin flavor and earthy, root-vegetable notes. With time, that black cherry flavor should become more prominent, balancing the wine’s earthy complexities.

Phuket’s Mom Tri’s Villa Royale hold’s Classical Music Concert Yesterday evening, Tuesday 18th February 2014, Mom Tri’s Villa Royale held a classical music concert as part of the annual Baan Kata Arts Festival, a celebration of art and cultural events.

Mom Tri Devakul had invited the Pro Music String Quartet featuring M.L.Usni Pramoj on viola, Tasana Nagavajara on violin, Siripong Tiptan on violin, and Kittikhun Sodpraser on cello and saw the quartet perform Felix Mendelsssohn’s String Quartets in E minor, Op.44, No.2 which featured Allegro assai appassionato, Scherzo, Allegro di molto, Andante and Presto agitato. The also performed M.L. Usni Pramoj’s String Quartet No.3 featuring Moderato, Allegretto, Larghetto and Allegro.

Phuket’s Mom Tri’s Villa Royale hold’s Classical Music Concert M.L.Usni Pramoj said about the choice of music “Mendelssohn’s string quartets were intended to be played by friends in his home and with the E minor quartet he certainly made them work. The opening Allegro assai involves fast moving scales and arpeggios with not much respite and must be played with passion. This is followed by even more hard labour in the Scherzo, testing each player’s bowing dexterity.  The Andante, where one would expect to be able to relax a little, has a footnote by the composer warning players not to dawdle but to keep things moving, while the Presto agitato is guaranteed to agitate any string player.  The E minor is regarded by many as Mendelsssohn’s finest string quartet.  From the players’ point of view, the toil is well worth the effort.

“I find it difficult to describe my own music because I cannot explain why anyone would want to spend long hours creating some noise.  I can only hope that listeners will not find the noise offensive. Sometimes quite pleasant?”

Phuket’s Mom Tri’s Kitchen welcomes Chef Per HallundbeakOn Saturday vening, 25th January 2014, Mom Tri’s Kitchen, the restaurant of Phuket’s Mom Tri’s Villa Royale, held a very special six course set menu wine dinner prepared to by three world class chefs. Joining Mom Tri’s Kitchen’s very own Chef Darren & Chef Sura in the kitchen was very special guest, Danish award winning master chef Per Hallundbeak.

The wines, specially selected to accompany the dishes, were chosen by no other than Georges Ciret – Wine Director of Mom Tri’s Villa Royale.

Chef Pers is currently the Chef/General Manager of the Falsled Kro Hotel & Restaurant in Denmark.

Phuket’s Mom Tri’s Villa’s Baan Kata Arts Fest 2013

Phuket’s Mom Tri’s Villa's Baan Kata Arts Fest 2013Eighteen Years Ago, ML Tri Devakul and ML Usni Pramoj organised the very first Baan Kata Arts Festival. This festival is an ongoing tradition bringing together artists and musicians, and all those who are appreciative of both.

The two day festival will commence on Sunday 3rd February 2013 with an art exhibition featuring paintings by Mom Tri at VR Gallery, the exact time of the exhibition has yet to be confirmed.

Monday 4th February will see a classical music concert with ML Usni Pramoj and Ensemble. There will be a cocktail reception at 18.00 hrs followed by the concert at 19.00 hrs.

Admiral ML Usni Pramoj is regarded as one of the outstanding creative musicians in Thailand and has held the distinction of being a Thailand National Artist in Performing Arts (Classical Music) since 1994.

Phuket Artists to hold joint exhibition at VR Gallery

Phuket Artist’s to hold joint exhibition at VR GalleryTwo of Phuket’s most popular Thai artists Watcharin Rodnit and Kriangrat Thephabutra are to hold a joint exhibition at Mom Tri’s Villa VR Gallery entitled ‘Beauty Shape’.

The exhibition will feature a combination of both oil on canvas paintings and mixed media sculptures.

The opening reception will be held on 4th January 2013 at 19:00 hrs.

VR Gallery is one of Phuket’s only dedicated art galleries featuring rotating exhibitions.  Mom Tri has long been a supporter of the arts and culture by supporting events and venues in Phuket.
