On 2nd July 2012 at Phuket City Hall, Police Chief of Phuket Pol.Maj.Gen. Chanasit Watanawarangkun, announced a plan to improve the security of tourists visiting the island.

The first action will be to increase police checkpoints and add more officers to the check points currently understaffed. They also ask for the cooperation of Phuket people in assisting in monitoring the safety of the tourists.

It was also announced that Phuket Provincial Police also plan to link together both the local government and private sector CCTVs that are currently in operation around the island. The CCTVs are already installed and need to be connected to the same server.
