On 26th April 2013 at the Grand Hall 1st fl, Central Festival Phuket East (formerly homeWorks), Central Festival Phuket General Manager – Wilaiporn Pitimanaaree and Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province – Wanchai Sutthiworachai presided over the opening of the “Thai Hom Mali Rice Festival 2013”. The event is being held to promote and market Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Yasothorn and Umnatcharoen Provinces production of Thai Hom Mali Rice.
Wanchai said “Thai Hom Mali Rice is now promoted both within Thailand and abroad. The domestic market is large because consumers are spread throughout the country. To help expand the domestic market of Thai Hom Mali Rice, Central Festival Phuket has organized this event because there are various groups here who have very high purchasing power. At the event, we are selling Hom Mali Rice at special prices and providing activities such as light & sound shows and a legend of Hom Mali Rice exhibition.”
“The quantity of rice exported from Thailand in 2012 was around 6.50 million tons, the third highest in the world (behind India and Vietnam). However, in 2013 we predict that amount to be 8.00 million tons, an increase of 1.50 million tons or 23.08 percent. It is hoped that if this amount is reached Thailand will once again be the world’s leading rice exporter” he added.
