On June 24th 2014, a celebration to mark the beginning of Ramadan was held at the Phuket Governor’s Mansion in Phuket Town. A panel of officials, led by Governor Maitri Inthusut, and comprising of PPAO Chief Advisor – Boonserm Suwannarathphoom, Council Secretary – Kraiwut Kumban, Council Members – Kamron Panthip, Sanya Sinsrida, Sonthaya Suntarak and Nuanchan Samart, welcomed a team of Islamic leaders and Imams from the Phuket Islamic Ethnics Promotion Association, Islamic communities, and 56 local mosques, the team was led by Pol Sgt Maj Komol Dumlak, Chair of Phuket Islamic Commission.
According to Governor Maitri, the event was organized to welcome the month of Ramadan, in which Muslims observe fasting, and to forge good understanding between people of different religions living in the same community. Ramadan, he continued, is an important time, given and prescribed by Al Kur’an as a tool for mankind to reach moral awareness. During the celebration, the Governor also donated dates, rice and water to all local mosques.
