Phuket Andaman Halal 2014 to boost island’s tourismA press conference on the Phuket Andaman Halal 2014 Fair was held at Phuket Graceland Resort and Spa in Patong on May 20th 2014. Leading the conference were Deputy Chief Executive – Soratham Jinda, Chair of Phuket Islamic Council – Komol Dumlak, Thailand Sheikhul Islam Office representative – Prof Dr Ismail Ali, Secretaries and Vice Secretary of Thailand Islamic Commission Surin Palare, Ratsami Damchawai, and Pramote Laethongkham. Also in attendance were PPAO Council Members, officials, Muslim Women Committee members, and media.

Phuket Andaman Halal 2014 to boost island’s tourismScheduled to take place from May 28th – 31st 2014, the Phuket Andaman Halal 2014 Fair aims to promote Phuket tourism, boost the island’s economy and the income of the local people by showcasing Islamic traditions, culture and products. The fair has two components, the first organized around the International Halal Conference (May 28th – 29th), and the second around the “Phuket Andaman Halal Expo 2014” (May 30th – 31st).

• May 28th – dinner for international guests
• May 29th – International Halal Conference, chaired by the Minister of Tourism and Sports, 1pm at Phuket Graceland Resort and Spa
• May 30th – 31st – Phuket Andaman Halal Expo 2014, taking place in Sapan Hin and to be opened by Sheikh Arsis Pitakkhumphol at on May 30 8.30pm

Muslims count for 30 percent of the total population of Phuket, they worship at some 50 mosques scattered throughout the island, and many work in the tourist industry. The organizers believe that the promotion of Muslim people and their culture will add an exciting dimension to the tourist industry and enable Phuket to compete with its Muslim neighbours in the field of tourism.
