On March 15th, 2010, Wichai Praisa-ngob, the Governor of Phuket, presided over a meeting of the Co-Committee of Phuket Provincial Economic Problem Solving. The members of the co-committee are representatives from government and private sectors.
The main agenda of the meeting was about local taxi and tuk-tuk management, especially in the airport area, since there are lots of complaints from tourists about unfair transportation charges. The tourists suggested that all the taxis must install standard meters to show the transportation fees.
It is necessary for the local government to manage the taxis in better order and legally, since it helps to assure tourists about the standard of transportation on the island which is a world class tourist destination.
