On Wednesday 15th October 2014 at Baan Tha Chat Chai in Moo 5, Tambol Mai Khao, Amphur Thalang, Phuket Governor – Khun Nisit Jansomwong presided over the opening of The Sufficiency Economy Village. The opening saw Khun Supoj Chanakit – Thalang Chief District, Khun Chaiya Kamsa-ad – Phuket Provincial Development Officer, along with heads of government agencies, media, business sector representatives, tourism organizations, leaders’ networks and the general public also in attendance.
Khun Chaiya said “The Community Development Department has chosen Phuket as one of 20 provinces to be included into a study about the development community to support ASEAN countries. In Phuket, the selection and development of villages decided that Baan Tha Chat Chai should support for such a study. In fiscal year 2557 the village had participated in the development of the enterprise network optimization study for OTOP development activities. It also holds English language training to guide the community. Today, the event is opens the village to study the ASEAN countries, which in turn will promote the activities of the village and an experiment using a community support program activities in the study of ASEAN.”
Khun Supoj added “The Baan Tha Chat Chai checkpoint is important part of Phuket as it is where visitors arrive to the island and where islander’s leave to get to other parts of the country. However, the area is not known as a tourist attraction even though it is home to Sarasin Bridge, the bridge of love. But in fact, there are several other interesting aspects to the area and we hope that the launch of this attraction will allow tourists to get to know more about this area.”
