Probably an 9 baht increase for Phuket’s minimum wage

9 December 2009 – Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Labour Mr Somchai Choomrat, as the chairman of central wage committee, said subcommittees of 76 provinces have submitted the proposals asking for an increase in minimum wage from 1-9 baht. Phuket is asking for the highest rise of 9 baht.

20 provinces didn’t ask for an increase. However, the committee considered to include 14 provinces more for wage adjustment due to the higher cost of living. Minimum wage in only 6 provinces to remain the same.

Expected to know the result of consideration by early next year. If passed the cabinet approval, this will bring a good news to labours for the year 2010.
