On June 18th 2010, at the central stage in Sapan Hin Park, Asis Pitakkoompon – the Chief of Muslims in Thailand, presided over the opening ceremony of the Phuket Andaman Halal Festival 2010 held by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO). Those present at the ceremony were Tanyarat Atchariyachai – Phuket’s senator; Chalermlak Kebsup – MP representative of Phuket; Teerayuth Aiumtrakul – a vice governor of Phuket; Bamroong Sumpaorat – the chief of Muslims in Phuket; Pol.Maj.Gen.Pikad Tantipong – the commander of Phuket Provincial Police; Taisika Praisangob – the president of Phuket Red Cross; Pramook Atchariyachai – Finland’s Honorary Consul to Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi; Paiboon Upattising – president of PPAO; other honorable guests and Phuket locals.
Phuket Andaman Halal Festival 2010 was held during June 18th-20th 2010 to promote Muslim lifestyle as another tourist attraction in Phuket and to stimulate the economy in the island. The festival was part of two related events. The first event was World of Halal Science Industry and Business-Phuket International Conference that took place at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa.
Meanwhile the second was this festival of halal food and products and Muslim lifestyle exhibitions held at the central stage, Sapan Hin Park. The event got a very good feedback from both Muslims and people with other religious beliefs in Phuket.
