1 December 2009 – Treasury Department prepared 134 million baht to develop The Deep Sea Port (Port of Phuket) in order to support large ships so that it can support economic expansion in the region.
“The project will get 26 million baht budget from the fiscal year 2011 and 107 million baht will be of the fiscal year 2012.” revealed Deputy Minister of Transport, Kuakul Danchaivijit. “We have a plan to develop the port capacity to support 9,000-20,000 DWT cargo ships. This will benefit the economy of the region. Especially for the tripartite economic cooperation between Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia and for the world free trade policy that will come into practise.”
