On 23rd June 2014 at the Central Festival Phuket Intersection, Phuket Governor – Khun Maitree Intusut and Phuket Muang District Chief – Khun Pakpum Intarasuwan paid a visit to inspect the progress on the ongoing Darasamuth Underpass project. Khun Maitree & Khun Pakpum was joined on the visit by the project manager, civil engineer and chief engineer of the highways agency.
Talking about the project, Khun Maitree said “The construction of the Darasamuth Underpass is now only 74 percent complete, which does not meet with the original schedule. Moreover, during this period, the rainy season, rainfall is a factor which is going to delay construction further. Therefore, I request that the officials responsible for this project report to me directly regarding any problems and constraints that may delay the completion of the project further.”
In addition, Khun Maitree also voiced his concern about the project being complete by November in time for the 4th Asian Beach Games. He advised that he has already received numerous complaints because of congestion in the area, especially during rush hour. If the project is not complete in time for the games, when the island will see a huge increase in tourists, it will give Phuket a very bad reputation.
