On May 12th 2010, at a meeting room of Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPPHO), Smith Palawatwichai, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over a meeting to follow up tobacco and alcohol control in Phuket. Those present at the meeting were officers from PPPHO, Phuket Provincial Excise Office, Phuket Provincial Police, and 19 local administrative organizations.
The main agenda of the meeting was to strictly control the merchants of local stalls, not to sell cigarettes or alcoholic drinks in public areas, especially in Phuket City’s seaside Sapanhin Park, which will be a pilot area for this scheme. There would be a fixed restricted time for people to buy, smoke or drink alcohol beverages in the mentioned area.
Question for readers: Do you agree with restrictions on cigarettes and alcohol sales at a park?
