Teerayuth Aiumtrakul, a Vice Governor of Phuket, informed about gambling suppression measures during World Cup 2010. The province has set up a committee in gambling prevention and suppression in all districts of Phuket. The committee members had met to discuss about the plans, targets, and information about their mission already.
He added that there were 10–15 soccer gambling houses in three districts of the island. During the World Cup 2010 period, the committee members would patrol around to see if there were any suspicious people or places involved in gambling businesses.
He further stated that football was a sport of fun and spirit; people should not connect it to gambling because it was not the real objective of the sport; students and teenagers especially should not let themselves into gambling ways.
