Phuket prepares for National Youth Games

On May 21st, PPAO president Mr Paiboon Upatising presided over the meeting of 28th National Youth Games or Phuket Games. Chief Administrative Officer of the PAO Mr Manop Leelasuthanon, Director of Tourism and Sport Division Mrs Chutima Junmee, Director of Engineering Division Mrs Wassana Sriwilai, Director of Sports Authority of Thailand Phuket Office Mr Wirat Patee, Director of Phuket Culture Office Mr Prayoon Nusuk, school principals around the island, Phuket Police, and other related units were in attendance.

Mr Paiboon said, “Thank you everyone for participating in this meeting and creating a good image for Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation as host for 28 th National Youth Games during May 26th-June 5th. As for now, we are all prepared for the games, especially with the opening ceremony on May 26th and closing ceremony on June 5th at Surakul Stadium, starting from 5PM-8PM. However, it would be great if Phuket residents can make it before 5PM because there will be traffic at that time, as there will be a parade coming into the stadium.”

“PPAO would also like to thank 38 schools around the island which have facilitated athletes by offering accommodation. However, we would like Phuket residents to welcome athletes and their families. Moreover, we would also like to invite Phuket residents to come to both the opening and closing ceremonies, and to enjoy the games,” Mr Paiboon added.

Mr Wirat also disclosed, “During the meeting, we have discussed the progress on preparation for the games, including security systems and rehearsals. Some honored guests have already reached Phuket, while athletes will start arriving from May 23 rd. In addition, Phuket Royal City Hotel will be used for live broadcasting.”

Phuket Provincial Police Deputy Commander Sakchai Limcharoen mentioned, “Phuket Police has already prepared for National Youth Games 2012. 1,000 Police will be in charge of security and traffic during the games. Moreover, CCTVs have been installed in order to reduce problems of security and traffic. In addition, there will be 7 operation centres, but the main one is at Phuket Police Headquarter.”
