On Friday July 18th 2014, Phuket Vice Governor – Sommai Preejasilp presided over the opening ceremony of a school saving bank at Puthamongkol Nimit School. Also presented at the opening were PPAO Chief Advisor – Boonserm Suwannarathphoom, the school director Parichart Jirawisithaporn, Regional Director of the Government Savings Bank (GSB) Phuket Branch – Sonthiya Rattanarat, managers of Saving Banks in Phuket, teachers, students and guests.
The establishment of the school saving bank comes under the initiatives of the GSB who provides funding for operational training to students who will manage the bank. GSB also provides IT and office furniture and initial saving capital. Under its saving scheme, the Bank has already opened 895 school banks nationwide. Puthamongkol Nimit is the 896th supported by the GSB. In Phuket alone, 52 such banks have been opened, which comes under the remit of GSB Region 16 Phuket Office.
In her speech, Vice Governor Sommai said she believes more young people today are saving as a result of education from their parents and schools. This practice, she said, is in line with HM the King’s preaching on sufficiency economy. Aside from promoting students to save, the opening of the school bank will train students to manage their own business, foster responsibility and teamwork.
