On November 2, 2013, at 16.30, Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut, presided over at an opening ceremony of Surin Stadium (Surin Beach, Tambon Cherng Talay, Amphoe Thalang, Changwat Phuket) and community friendship matches. For this event, PPAO Chief Executive Mr. Paiboon Upattising gave a reporting speech, and Surin Tambon Administration Chief Mr. Ma-An Samran delivered a welcoming speech. Taking part from PPAO were Vice Chief Executive Mr. Soratham Jinda, PPAO executives, PPAO Council Members, PPAO department heads and officials. The event was also attended by other government sectors, local administration offices, Surin community leaders, business people, the public, guests and the press.
Mr. Paiboon revealed that PPAO has allocated a budget of 18,423,000 baht for the construction of Surin Stadium to provide Surin and its neighboring communities with exercise space and a venue for activities that will benefit the public. The construction has been complete and an inauguration matches were being played today. The objective of the stadium, he said, was to encourage young people and the public to turn to sports for health and fitness and steer teenagers away from drugs. He believed it would reinforce good working relationship between provincial authorities and the community leaders. For this event, three matches played were: Ban Ban Tao School vs. Cherng Talay Tantiwit School; Phuket business people vs. community leaders and businessmen of Surin, PPAO executives and council members vs. Phuket provincial authorities (inauguration match). Other events included 31-legged races by Ban Bang Tao school children, performance by children from Ban Ban Tao Children Center, and volleyball demonstrations to young people by two sportswomen from Thai national team – Miss Amporn Yapha and Miss Pronpan Kerdprat.
Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut expressed his gratitude towards PPAO Chief Executive, its Executives and the Council Members, and event committee members for the construction of Surin Stadium so that the communities here and in Thalang have the space for exercise and sport activities. He also praised the organization of today’s friendship matches. The Governor continued to say that the inauguration ceremony and today’s sport events were the cooperation between Surin Tambon Administration Office and PPAO, who funded the construction of Surin Stadium using 18,423,000 baht. The people of Phuket and Cherng Talay communities were now the proud owner of this stadium. He urged these three parties to join force and make the stadium and its future activities beneficial, fun-filled so that the show of unity would be admired by all visiting tourists.
