On January 25th 2011, Suratin Lain U-dom, the President of Phuket City Night Club Entrepreneur Association, led association members and night club employees to submit a letter asking the provincial government to extend night club closing times from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. The letter was received by Weerawat Chanpen, a Vice Governor of Phuket.
Suratin said that “Closing at 1 a.m. directly affects night clubs in Phuket Town in terms of income. As I understand, apart from the beautiful island and marine activities, night life also generates Phuket income as well. Based on the socioeconomic fact of Phuket, 2.00 a.m. is a better time to close the night clubs.”
He then revealed that there was a request for garden restaurants and other types of restaurant to close at 4.00 a.m. The members of the association promised to help with the night club order policy by not allowing youth’s under 20 years old to enter their night clubs, reporting evidence of drugs trading and crime, as well as prohibiting weapons and lewd performances at their venues.
Meanwhile, Weerawat, a Vice Governor, told them that there would be a discussion between the provincial government and the association about this matter again on January 27th 2011. It is necessary to find out the best solution for every sector.
