On June 26th 2014, the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, related activities were organized by the Thailand Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and hosted by Governor Maitri Inthusut at Sanamchai Field in Phuket. PPAO Chief Advisor – Boonserm Suwannarathphoom led a panel of PPAO officials to join the event.
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is set by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to be on June 26th of every year. Under the theme “Safe Society, Secure Community, Returning Youths to Families,” ONCB has set the whole month of June to be the time for campaigning against drug abuse by enlisting active participation from young people through drama and creative programs. The activities also link to the reconciliation and “returning happiness to the people” program established by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
For the occasion, another minor theme entitled “United and Reconciled Phuket” has been created by the Phuket authority who invited participations from numerous other government agencies. The event featured shows and exhibitions on various topics including: allegiance to HM the King, united front against drug abuse, nature of drugs and drug abuse (by educational institutions and organizations) stalls selling products, medical service station, free food and drink stations, live entertainment by musicians, the military, police, etc. There was also award-giving ceremony for people with outstanding record of achievement in the area of drug abuse campaign.
